Why Tiny Tins? It's not what you think...

I created the tins for many reasons but honestly, I just love tiny things, organizing and boxes.  Always have.

I am drawn to beautiful boxes that hold greeting cards and tarot and matches…they are invitations to what is inside.  I adore old school card catalogs and file cabinets…functional, beautiful and full of knowledge to be discovered and preserved.

Everything in its place, storing treasures, keepsakes to rediscover…it all connects to simplicity and being in the moment.  These things are tactile and not ultraviolet…we pick them up, investigate…we connect.  Objects hold sentiments and sentiments connect us to experiences and loved ones.

Listen, I know it’s “just a little tin box” but for me, it is actually much more.

I designed these sweet containers to hold memories…new ones we create and recollections of our youth.

I wanted to craft something tangible, something we hold both physically and emotionally.

I long for days of boredom that lead to creativity and imagination; when restlessness wasn’t cured by a screen but by reading, writing, drawing, imagining…just figuring it out.

An empty compartment holds so many possibilities…

The artists Joseph Cornell and Louise Nevelson created an entire career around making art inside boxes, extremely different creations but both captivated by what a simple cube could hold.

Have you ever read the children’s book “Not a Box” by Antoinette Portiss?  It’s a wonderful tale of the possibilities an empty box holds if we just use our imagination.  My children and I used to giggle reading this at bedtime and imagining all the things a box could become.

My new tiny tins are meant to hold pocket-size treasures but also aimed to spark curiosity, imagination and simple joys.   The mystique of what could be held inside, it’s all so personal and delightful.

Between the snail mail club and these tins, I am feeling all the links to the world I want to live in...one that is slower, full of human connections and embracing moments in time.

I hope that you too are finding the things that you hold dear.

All my best,

Sarah
